I visited the second Consumer Products Expo(CICPE 2022) and made a small comparison with the first one

The first Consumer Expo last year was very popular.

How is the second session?

Has the economic situation affected the process of the exhibition?

What improvements have been made on-site?

Are there any hidden problems?

Last year, I went to the first consumer expo twice in two days. The first time was on an opening day, and the second time was on the morning of the second day of the expo. I visited carefully and wrote down an article named “Watching the Consumer Expo from Another Perspective”.

I went to this second consumer expo on its second day. I made a fast visit which lasted for half day.

I would like to share my feelings resulting from what I saw on the exhibition site.

Last year, I went to the expo on an opening day, and my visit together lasted for a whole day. But this time since my visit is at a different time and is not as long as the former one, it is not completely comparable. I would like to make stress here.

The Growth of the Second Consumer Expo

The second consumer expo opened on July 26, 2022, and the exhibition will last for 5 days.

# Pictures are from the Internet.

Data of the first consumer expo:

Time: May 7-10, 2021, the exhibition period is 4 days.

Exhibition area: 80,000 square meters.

There were 1,505 companies and 2,628 consumer boutique brands from 70 countries and regions that participated in the first Consumer Expo in total. Switzerland was the guest country for the first consumer expo.

Audience: There were more than 30,000 purchasers and professional visitors of all kinds, and more than 240,000 visitors.

This is an entrance to the first consumer expo in 2021. The number of entrances this year has been added. It saves more time for visitors from waiting in line.

Some data from the second consumer expo:

Time: July 26-30, 2022, the exhibition period is 5 days, 1 day longer than the first one.

Exhibition area: 100,000 square meters (an increase of 20,000 square meters over the first session), of which the international exhibition area is 80,000 square meters, accounting for 80% of the exhibition area.

The domestic exhibition area is 20,000 square meters, including the provincial (regional, municipal) exhibition area of 15,000 square meters. 31 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) and Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps all participated in the exhibition. A new 5,000-square-meter domestic product boutique hall will be set up to display domestic consumer products and time-honored brands.

The photo was taken on July 27, 2022, the second day of the 2nd Consumer Expo.

A total of more than 2,800 brands from more than 60 countries and regions participated in the exhibition. France is the guest country for this year's Consumer Expo.

Audience: According to the statistics of the Organizing Committee of the 2nd Consumer Expo, from July 26th to 28th, there were over 152,000 professional visitors.

There were over 152,000 Professional Visitors for This Year’s Consumer EXPO

Journalists knew from the Organizing Committee of the Consumer EXPO that there were over 51,000 visitors on July 28th. During 26-28th there were over 152,000 professional visitors. Since July 29th, the exhibition will be open to the public and it is estimated that the number of visitors will continue to grow.

July 29 was the first day of the public opening day, with a total of more than 62,000 visitors.

If that continues, there would be a total of 214,000 visitors.

Today (July 30) is the last day of the exhibition. It is expected that many people will go on a shopping spree, so the total number of visitors will exceed the first session.

Taken on July 27, 2022, the second day of the 2nd Consumer Expo.

According to the above data, the second Consumer Expo exceeded the first session in terms of exhibition area, exhibition period, exhibiting brands, and the number of visitors.

Leaders attending the opening ceremony

On July 25, the opening ceremony of the 2nd China International Consumer Goods Expo and Global Consumer Forum was held in Haikou.

Liang Zhenying, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, announced the opening and delivered a keynote speech.

French President Emmanuel Macron, Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-Ocha, Executive Director of the United Nations International Trade Center Pamela, Deputy Director-General of the World Trade Organization Zhang Xiangchen, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Chief Executive Li Jiachao, and Macau Special Administrative Region Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng delivered speeches respectively via video.

Shen Xiaoming, Secretary of the Hainan Provincial Party Committee (video speech), and Wang Shouwen, International Trade Negotiation Representative and Vice Minister of the Ministry of Commerce, delivered welcome speeches. On the morning of July 25, the 2nd Consumer EXPO opened in Haikou, Hainan. Shen Xiaoming, Secretary of the Hainan Provincial Party Committee delivered a welcome speech at the opening ceremony of the 2nd Consumer EXPO.

From the perspective of exhibitors, visitors, and participators in the meeting, negotiation, business, release, seminars, and exchanges are the most important things. They do not care much about the levels of the leaders.

'Patches' and Exhibits are in 'Discord'

The second Consumer Expo was initially scheduled for April 12-16, 2022.

On March 19 this year, the secretariat of the organizing committee announced the delay of the event. On June 10, it was announced that the exhibition would be rescheduled for July 26-30.

07.jpg

The epidemic and economic situation still have impacts on the Consumer Exhibition, but China's huge consumer market and consumer demand are very attractive to enterprises. Therefore, the influence is not so great.

In the rear of some exhibition halls, there are obvious signs that the number of exhibition booths has been reduced. Some exhibition halls have very wide secondary passages. It is estimated that due to the rescheduling and other reasons, a small number of booths were not sold.

08.jpg

Just like last year, food and beverages, alcohol, cosmetics, health and leisure products, and luxury goods are the most favorite products for people. Therefore, the exhibition halls displaying these categories are the most popular.

In some exhibition halls, exhibits of adjacent booths are greatly different, which makes the exhibition not so harmonious.

As we can see in the photo below, the booth on the right is COSCO Shipping, and on the left is Price Waterhouse Coopers (in the red circle). The only point they share in common is that both of them are service trade.

Tesla (shown in the red box in the picture) is behind the booth next door to COSCO Shipping.

Meals and drinks

Last year's dining area was located in Hall 6, and this year, Hall 6 has been changed to an exhibition hall.

I believe that people who had meals at the exhibition site last year were deeply impressed by the crowded dining area, the smoke from the grilled skewers, and the bad air conditioning.

This year, the dining area is in a temporary greenhouse on the outdoor space. When I entered (around 11:15 am on July 27), the air conditioner in the tent was relatively cool. There are isolation panels between the dining tables for anti-epidemic purposes.

11.jpg

The dining environment is significantly better and more comfortable than last year, and grilled skewers that produce annoying smoke are dismissed!

Last year I only saw one Starbucks in the preface hall, and there were a lot of people in line.

13.jpg

This year, several Luckin Coffee, KFC, and Pizza Hut have been added to the exhibition hall, which is really good news for many people who love coffee but are reluctant to go to the outdoor tent to dine.

14.jpg

It's really hot outside.

It is necessary to set appropriate areas for dining and rest in order to keep the audience staying and going shopping in the exhibition hall. In doing so, the visitors and exhibitors can be more satisfied with the Consumer EXPO.

a small regret

According to the regulations of the organizing committee, a nucleic acid certificate within 24 hours is required for people to enter the venue.

After the museum closed on July 27th, my friend took me to the Marriott Hotel which is next to the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center for nucleic acid testing. I didn't expect there were so many people queuing. Because if you want to access the exhibition hall the next day, everyone must do the testing on the same day which has resulted in a lot of people queuing after the museum is closed. Although there is a dormer window in the area, it is not indoors after all. But it is really hot.
