As technical support for economic activities and social development, standard serves an important part of the state’s fundamental systems. Standardization plays a basic and guiding role in promoting the modernization of a state's governance system and governance capacity. 

President Xi Jinping noted that China will positively implement a standardization strategy to promote innovative, coordinated, green, open, and inclusive development. In October of 2021, the State Council issued National Standardization Development Outline. (the Outline for short), focuses on optimizing the governance structure of standardization, increasing the governance efficiency of standardization, and promoting high-quality development with high standards. Earlier, the State Council issued Some Opinions on Further Promoting the Reform and Development of the Exhibition Industry (No.15 of Guofa[2015] ), clearly stating that the standard system, of the exhibition industry, should be improved. The important remarks of the Outline and relevant laws and regulations provide the basis for promoting the standardization of the convention and exhibition industry.  

In recent years, the convention and exhibition industry has made great progress in promoting the opening of cities to the outside world and the transformation and upgrading of the industries. It has been an important focus for local governments to promote industrial development by using the convention and exhibition platform to promote the “Double cycle”. However, under the background of rapid development, the malign competition, lack of credit, low level of specialization, the unwarranted interests of exhibitors, and the inadequate protection of intellectual property rights are often taking place, which is not conducive to the healthy and orderly development of the convention and exhibition industry. Therefore, it is imperative to promote the standardization of the convention and exhibition industry.

On March 3rd this year, under the guidance of the Department of Commerce of Guangdong Province and the supervision and administration of the market of Guangdong Province, the Guangdong Convention and Exhibition Industry Standardization Technical Committee( the Guangdong CEISTC for short) was formally established, which marks a new stage and new start of the standardization of the convention and exhibition industry of Guangdong Province, which means that the standardization of the convention and exhibition industry in our country has added an important member, and contribute “Guangdong Wisdom” to the high-quality development of the convention and exhibition industry of our country.

In the face of the new situation and new mission, the work for the standardization of the convention and exhibition industry should strengthen the top-level design, lay a more solid foundation for the research and development of basic and key standardization, further improve the working mechanism and stimulate the vitality of market players, should vigorously promote the application of standards and the development of human resources, actively participate in the formulation of national and international standard strategies, policies and rules, and continuously promote the development and governance of the industry with high standards.

Firstly, let the standard committee play its full part. At present, the National Conference and Exhibition Industry Standard Committee and the Conference and Exhibition Industry Standard Committee of Zhejiang Province, Shanxi Province, and Guangdong Province have been established. Under the guidance of the competent standardization department, the Guangdong Conference and Exhibition Standards Committee strictly complies with the new standardization law and regulations, and in accordance with the work requirements and entrustment of the competent government department, effectively undertakes the work of organizing the drafting and reviewing of various standards in the field, and formulate and revise the corresponding standards of exhibition services in a timely manner. Strengthen the close contact with relevant government management departments, associations, and key enterprises to provide service for the formulation, propagation, and implementation of the standards.  Strengthen the investigation, grasp the actual situation, track the trend of the development and change of the same industry standards at home and abroad, and strengthen the pertinence, scientificity, and effectiveness of the formulation and revision of standards. Set up the rules and regulations, and the working procedures, and bring together the experts and scholars in the convention and exhibition industry, so as to contribute to the standardization of the convention and exhibition industry in Guangdong Province.

Secondly, optimize and improve the standard system of the convention and exhibition industry. Taking full of the technical advantages of the Guangdong Convention and Exhibition Standard Committee, based on the characteristics of Guangdong province, according to the principle of “hurry first, slow later”, transform the advanced and practical practice results of the Conference and exhibition industry into standards in a timely manner, to form a complete standard system. Many of the committee members are from enterprises, play their full part as the main role in the formulation of standards, take the initiative to take on relevant standard research and development projects, and improve the implementation, recognition, and binding of the standards.

Thirdly, strengthen the work of publicity, training, and implementation of convention and exhibition industry standards. The life of the standard lies in its implementation. The Guangdong Convention and Exhibition Standards Committee should take the initiative to strengthen cooperation with convention and exhibition enterprises, news media, and so on, using various methods to enhance the efforts of publicity, training, and implementation of standards. With the plan to invite industry experts to carry out a targeted interpretation of the convention and exhibition industry standards implemented by Guangdong Province, and expand the scope of knowledge and influence. Actively mobilize provincial and municipal associations of the convention and exhibition industry to carry out the work of publicity and implement standards, strengthen the enterprise's publicity, and training, and improve the quality of people in this industry. In particular, committee members who own businesses, take the lead in the implementation of standards. 

Fourthly, strengthen the tracking analysis of the implementation of standards of the convention and exhibition industry. Actively follow up and analyze the implementation of standards, report the implementation to relevant government departments in a timely manner, and make timely suggestions for adjustment and revision of industry standards that do not meet the requirements. At the same time, cooperate with relevant government departments, strengthen the supervision and inspection of the implementation of standards, and strengthen the supervision of non-standard enterprises.
